“Psychological” foods improve mood and reduce stress levels

Have you ever felt calm and relaxed after eating an ice cream or a bag of potato chips when you’re feeling stressed? It just so happens that certain foods have the power to lift your mood and manage stress levels. Some healthy foods are packed with essential nutrients that improve mental health, but have you heard of psychoactive foods? A recent study suggests that psychobiotic foods are also beneficial for mental health.

What are psycho foods?

Biopsychocytosis is a term used for probiotics, prebiotics, and fermented foods for mental health. Probiotics are described as live bacteria and yeasts that, when consumed in sufficient quantities, confer a mental health benefit. They aim to help treat various mental health conditions such as stress, anxiety, and depression.

A recent study published in the journal Nutrients suggests that eating certain foods can reduce stress and improve sleep quality. The study involved 40 healthy adults who were randomly assigned to either a psychobiotic enriched group or a placebo group. The psychobiotic group consumed a daily supplement containing Lactobacillus helveticus and Bifidobacterium longum, while the placebo group received a non-probiotic supplement.

The results showed that participants who took the psychobiotic supplement experienced a significant reduction in perceived stress levels compared to the placebo group, and also reported improved sleep quality and cognitive function. In contrast, the placebo group showed no significant changes in these parameters.

Hence, psychobiotics play a specific role in decreasing abnormal behaviors, decreasing negative emotions, and enhancing cognitive function. They also have a great potential for reducing psychological stress.

Probiotics and fermented foods are both good for your health.

Fermented foods such as yogurt, buttermilk, cheese, yogurt, and sauerkraut, which are also high in probiotics, are some examples of foods rich in antibiotics. These foods contain live cultures of beneficial bacteria that can colonize the intestines and improve their function. Garlic Onions and asparagus are examples of prebiotic foods that can help develop good gut bacteria
