CHEERIOS breakfast bars or cookies


1 1/4 t. (300 mL) sugar

1/2 t. (125 mL) butter or margarine, softened

1/2 t. (125 mL) peanut butter

1/4 cup (50 mL) water

1 C. (15 mL) vanilla

1 egg

1 1/2 t. (375 mL) all-purpose or whole-wheat flour

1 t. (250 mL) old-fashioned or quick-cooking rolled oats

1 t. (250 mL) raisins

1/2 tsp. 1/2 tsp (2 mL) each baking soda and salt

4 t. (1 L) Cheerios* cereal or Cheerios* Multi-Grain cereal


Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large bowl, combine sugar, butter, peanut butter, water, vanilla and egg.

Stir in the rest of the ingredients, except the cereal. Gently stir in the cereal.

Pour into an ungreased 9 x 13-inch (23 x 33 cm) pan.

Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool. Cut into bars.
