5 things that turn coffee from a friend to an enemy to your health

Besides giving you a boost of vitality in the morning thanks to the caffeine, coffee is also rich in heart-healthy antioxidants, not to mention providing many other benefits.

But despite all these benefits, bad coffee drinking habits can cause you to gain weight without even realizing it.

In a report published by the American magazine “Eat This Not That”, Isadora Pom reviewed things that make your favorite drink a reason for you to gain extra kilos.

1- Your coffee has many sweeteners

It’s best to make your request simple to limit the sweeteners in your coffee. According to nutrition expert Lauren Harris-Pinks, “The American Heart Association recommends limiting the consumption of added sugar to 24 grams per day for women and 36 grams for men, noting that large cups of coffee served in some cafes may contain up to 80 grams of sugar.”

2- Consider coffee as a meal

“Coffee is not a meal,” Harris-Pinks explained, noting that “protein, fiber, greens and grains are the key to a healthy, balanced diet to keep you feeling full for a long time and control your hunger.”

Drinking a cup of coffee rich in calories, sugar and fat cannot provide these nutrients that the body needs, and feeling hungry as a result of drinking only a cup of coffee may make you overeat later.

3- Always add whipped cream to your coffee

Another ingredient that makes your coffee bad for your diet is whipped cream, according to Harris-Pinks. Whipped cream contains no nutrients other than that it’s high in calories, which if you eat a lot of it can lead to weight gain.

4- Use of artificial sweeteners

Don’t let these healthy options fool you, they are not healthy at all. According to dietitian Elise Shapiro, “Artificial sweeteners may seem like a convenient, zero-calorie alternative to your morning coffee, but people who use artificial sweeteners are more likely to consume more calories, and therefore have an increased risk of obesity, than those who don’t.” .

5- Consumption of bottled coffee

Buying this pre-made coffee may seem like a quick option, but these drinks are rich in sugar, for example, one package of canned iced coffee may contain 260 calories and 29 grams of added sugar, which makes it the worst drink you can start your morning with.
