We all need fats in our diet, but it is important to choose the beneficial types. There are two main types of fats: saturated and unsaturated.


Saturated fats are harmful to the body, because they raise the level of cholesterol in the blood, thus increasing the risk of heart disease and strokes. They are called saturated fats because the carbon atoms in them are all linked to hydrogen atoms.


As for unsaturated fats, they contain some carbon atoms that are not occupied by hydrogen atoms, and these fats are less energy-generating, that is, they contain fewer calories, and they contribute to lowering blood cholesterol, heart diseases, and strokes.


Saturated fats are found in many foods, such as cakes, pies, biscuits, all kinds of sweets, butter and sausages.


Therefore, you must stop eating them, and switch to foods that contain unsaturated fats, such as unprocessed vegetable oils, fatty fish, avocados, seeds, nuts, whole grains, and olives.
