Diet may reduce the chances of breast cancer spreading

Researchers explained that women who suffer from an aggressive form of breast cancer may be able to reduce the chances of the disease spreading by limiting calories and following a low-calorie diet, as this may help breast cancer patients reduce its spread rates, according to what was stated. In the British newspaper The Independent.

The study, published in the journal Breast Cancer Research and Therapy, used mouse models to investigate the effect of diet on the disease. The research found that restricted diets produce more protective proteins in the tissues around cancerous tumors, making it harder for the cancer to spread.

The study also found that reducing the amount of calories in the diet is likely to reduce the risk of developing cancer in places other than the breast, as when mice were given 30% fewer calories, changes occurred in the body in the way the cells were organized.
