British study: Corona causes long-term psychological symptoms

A new study revealed that there are some persistent psychological effects of the long-term Corona virus, and the researchers indicated that it was found that symptoms of anxiety and depression increased immediately after infection with Corona, and symptoms reached their peak during the first week of infection, and may continue after recovery, according to the “Times of India”.

In the study, the researchers looked at the long-term psychological consequences of corona, which is also called the post-corona state.

The research evaluated data from 3,115 participants over 18 years of age living in England who were infected with COVID-19 during November 2021 and examined the timing of the first episode of post-COVID-19 psychological symptoms and the extended patterns of psychological symptoms between short- and long-term COVID-19 groups.

It was based on data from University College London (UCL) conducted between March 2020 and November 2021.

According to the study, out of 3,115 patients with COVID-19, 495 experienced long-term COVID-19, which was matched with 962 people with short-term COVID-19.

It was found that symptoms of anxiety and depression increased immediately after infection with Corona, in both the short and long periods of Corona. Symptoms peaked during the first week of infection.

In both short- and long-term COVID-19 patients, symptoms of depression and anxiety were approximately the same 10 months post-infection.

According to the study’s experts, this may be an indication that depression is a biological consequence of the coronavirus and is not caused by a higher susceptibility to emotional distress during infection.

The co-principal researchers believe that the study was to date one of the largest and longest looking at the psychological experiences of long-term COVID-19 patients.
