The Center for Consumer Protection in the German state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania said that ready-made coffee drinks such as cappuccino and macchiato contain a lot of calories and sugar.
The center explained that the calories in one cup of cappuccino reach 320 calories, which is more than half of a large piece of full-fat chocolate or the equivalent of a cheeseburger.
Instant coffee drinks also often contain a large amount of sugar. For example, a 400 ml bottle contains 48 grams, equivalent to 16 cubes of sugar.
Therefore, ready-made coffee drinks should be viewed as intermittent meals and not as thirst-quenching drinks, according to what the Al Ain News Center quoted the German news agency as saying.
