Honey preserves food for several months
An American researcher said that honey can be an alternative to preservatives that are added to some foods in order to store them and make them valid for the longest possible period because it contains antioxidants.
Researcher Nikki Ingesis replaced the amino acid with EDTA to prevent the oil found in salad broth and in the sweet corn liquid that is put in many broth products to give them a sweet flavor and taste, from oxidizing.
“We found that the antioxidants in honey preserved the quality of salad dressing for about nine months and made it taste naturally sweet,” said Engesis, an assistant professor in the Department of Food Chemistry at the University of Illinois.
He added that he conducted tests on 19 types of honey to determine their effect, properties, and ability to preserve the substances that are added to them. It was found that most of them contain compounds that can preserve food for several months.
