Benefits of fruit peels

Throwing away fruit peels has become a common habit, even though they (the peels) contain very important nutritional elements that exceed those found in the pulp of these fruits, and these elements play an essential role in protecting against many serious diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, malignant tumors, obesity, and others. It is no wonder that the ancient Egyptians, Romans, and Greeks associated fruits, especially their peels, with health, beauty, and their amazing ability to cure many ailments. The benefits of fruit peels are:

Pomegranate peel: It contains antioxidant compounds such as phenols, flavonoids, and proanitocyanidins, and the percentage of these compounds in the peel is many times greater than what is available in the inner fruit. For example, the amount of phenols in the pomegranate pulp is 25 milligrams, while their amount in the peel is more than 250 milligrams.

Apple peel: Its importance lies in the fact that it contains several components that are extremely important for health, such as quercetin and triterpenoids, the latter of which is found abundantly in red apples. A study indicated that it prevents the emergence of cancer cells and helps eliminate them, especially liver, colon, and breast cancer cells. Other research indicates that apple peel reduces the level of lipids in the blood and protects against atherosclerosis.

Orange peel: It contains d-limonene compounds, which research has revealed are beneficial in lowering the level of cholesterol in the blood and protecting against the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays. Orange peel is rich in pectin fiber and vitamin C, and its benefit is known in preventing cancer, especially prostate and breast cancer.

Lemon peel: It helps prevent skin cancer by 30 percent. It is also useful in preventing the formation of kidney stones due to its richness in citric acid and potassium

Banana peel: It contains serotonin, which is considered one of the most important compounds in the brain that contributes to calming the nerves and improving mood. Banana peel also contains the compound lutein, which is very important for eye protection. It goes without saying that the banana fruit has many benefits because it contains effective elements that work to build tissues.

Grape peel: It contains several components, the most important of which are resveratrol compounds. Many studies have been conducted on them that have confirmed that they have properties that inhibit the growth of cancer cells, especially prostate cancer.

-Watermelon peel: A Chinese study states that it is useful in treating five diseases: blood inflammation, high blood pressure, urinary retention, constipation and dropsy.
