Effects of the sun on the skin and methods of protection

We all love hot days, unfortunately the sun does not like our skin as much as we love it, and it can even cause worse results on our skin than burns. As we age, our skin becomes more sensitive and fragile. 75 Percent of skin aging is due to environmental factors, and most is caused by UV rays.  Ultraviolet rays change the normal structure of the skin, causing wrinkles and brown spots to appear. All sunscreens are labeled with ‘sun protection factor’, or SPF. This number explains how effective sunscreen is at preventing sun damage caused by UVB rays. The higher the SPF, the higher the protection against UVB radiation. An SPF 15 sunscreen filters about 93 percent of UVB radiation, while SPF 30 filters about 97 percent’sini, SPF 50 filters about 98’.

WHY IMPORTANT?

The harmful rays of the sun, UVA and UVB, are among the most important causes of skin cancer. While UVB rays are responsible for sunburns, UVA rays cause premature skin aging. Exposure to both types of radiation significantly increases the risk of skin cancer. Keep in mind that even on cloudy days UV rays reach our skin because they can penetrate the clouds. Although skin cancer is more common in people with light skin, it does not discriminate and can affect those with darker skin as well.
