Researchers have found some evidence that indicates the possibility of a relationship between infertility in women and their stress levels, which, if increased, may have an impact on the fertility of women, especially older women.

Dr.Alice Domar, Executive Director of the Domar Center for Body and Mind Health in Massachusetts, said that the study she conducted confirms the existence of a relationship between a woman’s constant thinking about pregnancy and her low levels of fertility.

Domar added, “The part of the brain specialized in controlling the reproductive system is called the hypothalamus, and it is also the part responsible for controlling stress levels, and this is what prompted me to directly link the possibility of a relationship between the infertility of some women and their stress,” according to what CNN reported.

Doctors advise older women who want to have children to attend psychological treatment sessions as a suitable alternative to expensive infertility treatment, to reduce their stress level. Acupuncture sessions are considered one of the most effective methods that the Domar Center relies on.

Another study indicated that 33 percent of women become infertile when they reach the age of 40, while the percentage rises to 87 percent when they reach the age of 45. However, Dr.Domar emphasized that women may be more qualified to give birth to a new child at the age of forty, both financially and psychologically, because, in her opinion, “they show higher confidence in their role as mothers.”.

Meredith Kolk, a 40-year-old mother of one child, succeeded in getting pregnant after attending three acupuncture sessions, where she gave birth to healthy female twins last October. Kolk had resorted to artificial insemination, tried to change her diet, and worked on taking acupuncture sessions, in addition to allocating some time to meditate every morning in order to reduce her stress level.

Kolk said, “I imagined every morning that I was pregnant with a healthy child, or that the doctor informed me that I was pregnant. All of these things eased my stress.”
