What is the Eat Stop Eat Diet for Weight Loss?

The intermittent fasting diet has become ubiquitous now and everyone does it in different ways. Some people resort to the 8:16 method, during which a person fasts for 16 hours a day and eats for 8 hours, while some resort to the 5:2 method that depends on eating. Naturally for 5 days a week, drastically reducing calories for two days.


But another version of intermittent fasting that you may be less familiar with is the Eat Stop Eat diet.


Eat Stop Eat was founded by fitness expert Brad Pilon, who, according to his website, found it while doing research on short-term fasting at the University of Guelph and wrote a book about it in 2007 and published an updated version of it in 2017.


According to Brad’s website, the Eat Stop Eat diet involves fasting for 24 hours twice a week and then eating “responsibly” for the remaining five days but not necessarily “following a diet.”


For example, you have to fast from 8 am until 8 am the next day, provided that you eat breakfast before the start of the system, i.e. before 8 am on the first day, and then eat breakfast after 8 am on the next day.




Brad says in his book that during this system it is possible to eat 3 meals a day or 20 because all that matters is eating responsibly according to the calories that the body needs


The Eat Stop Eat system stimulates the metabolism and helps to lose weight and reduce the number of calories because when you stop eating the body will have to use the glycogen stored from carbohydrates and fats as fuel, and when the glucose and glycogen stores are used, it turns into a ketogenic state and burns fat for fuel.
