Too many medications cause dementia

A recent study whose results were published in the United States showed that several commonly used medications can increase the risk of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, in elderly people who take them in high doses or over long periods.

The study’s authors explained that all of these medications contain a substance known as an anticholinergic, which leads to disturbances in communication between nerve cells and results in problems with memory, learning, and muscle activity.

This study also indicates for the first time that this risk can continue without the possibility of recovery, even after stopping taking these medications over a period of several years.
