What is the spine?
The spine is made up of bones, muscles, tendons, nerves, and other tissues that run from the base of the skull near the spinal cord to the coccyx (tailbone).
The vertebrae ( back bones) include the cervical spine, thoracic spine, lumbar spine, sacral spine, and tailbone.
When they are babies, babies have a C- shaped spine, minor curves, and the lumbar spine develops when babies are able to hold their heads up, sit up, crawl, stand, and walk.
What are the emotions?
Emotions are a subjective state of mind or feeling in motion. Emotions can be reactions to internal stimuli ( such as thoughts or memories) or events that occur in our external environment.
Happiness, joy, interest, curiosity, excitement, gratitude, love, contentment – these positive emotions feel good and help us move forward in life.
Negative emotions such as sadness, anger, loneliness, jealousy, self-criticism, fear or rejection – it can be difficult and painful at times.
How can the spine affect your feelings? 1. The hunchback position makes us feel lazy
When our spine turns to one side (scoliosis) or we develop kyphosis or “ATP,” it also affects us emotionally. We feel more sluggish and become less confident in ourselves.
2. A well-aligned spine makes you confident
When the spine is well aligned, it gives us good posture and also improves blood circulation in the body. The internal organs also get enough space to function well and this helps people feel happy and confident.
3. Spinal pain can make you feel down
When we feel pain in the spine due to muscle spasms or degeneration of the bones of the spine, we feel emotional weakness, which begins to affect our quality of life.
A lot of people cannot focus on functioning well if there is pain in the spine which may also affect our sleep cycle and thus make us feel more irritable, it can also lead to general fatigue which starts to affect our hormone cortisol which in turn affects our mood and emotions more.
4. A healthy spine makes us feel happier
When our spine is free of pain, we feel a sense of freedom and joy. We are able to move in all directions and go about our daily activities with ease.
Neurotransmitters work efficiently to relay messages from our spine to the brain that make us feel happy, healthy, secure, and energetic.
