What are the benefits of green tea for our skin?

Maestro of purification

“Its high content of tannins with astringent virtues, allows green tea to absorb excess sebum, toxins, pollution residues, in short, it cleanses the skin texture, tightens dilated pores. After its passage, the dermis is clarified, the complexion gains in radiance “, explains Lucile Battail, founder of Laboté, natural cosmetics.

Anti-aging partner

“In addition to detoxifying the skin, ultra-concentrated in polyphenols including catechin, it neutralizes the free radicals responsible for premature skin aging,” adds the pharmacist. Its molecules boost collagen production, help preserve the elasticity of the skin, with delayed sagging of the dermis.

Soothing agent

Thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties, it comforts the epidermis of sensitive skin. As a bonus, its amino acids optimize the regeneration of the skin barrier.

Slimming boost

“Green tea stimulates the mechanism of lipolysis which optimizes the destocking of fats”, indicates Lucile Battail. In addition, while its tannins boost skin tone, its caffeine content offers a draining action.

Green tea: for what type of skin?

Green tea has the advantage of serving all skin types, with oily skin at the top of the list for its sebum-regulating effect.

Sensitive skin appreciates it for its soothing action. Very effective for cleaning, it is ideal as a lotion for radiance of the complexion, whether the skin is normal, combination or prone to dryness since it does not dry out.

Three DIY recipes based on green tea to detoxify our skin

Green tea lotion

What ingredients?

75 ml of distilled water

1 bag of green tea

20 ml of vodka

5 ml of vegetable glycerin

3 drops of grapefruit seed extract

Manual :

In a saucepan, pour distilled water and bring to a boil. Once boiling, remove the saucepan from the heat and slip the tea bag in to infuse it.

Let the infusion cool and pour it into a clean bottle with a tight-fitting cap.

Add vodka, vegetable glycerin, grapefruit seed extract. Close the bottle and shake vigorously to mix the preparation well.

Let the lotion stand for 3 hours at the most before using it. Soak a cotton ball in the lotion and gently massage it all over the face.

This recipe is taken from the book Making Natural Cosmetics It’s Easy! Cyrille Saura-Zellweger, Éd. Youth. € 8.70.

Advice from Lucile Battail, pharmacist

“Red alert on the preparation of this lotion, it is imperative not to let it sit too long before using it! This step could leave room for a potential development of bacteria. It is preferable to incorporate all the elements in boiling water to limit the risk of contamination, place it in the fridge to cool and use it within 3 hours maximum.

It is a good option for skin exposed to pollution as a protective barrier. It will also delight skin prone to oily and / or lacking radiance. To be used in the morning as a tonic to wake up the complexion and in the evening to finish off make-up removal and cleansing. “

Matcha tea antioxidant mask

What ingredients?

1 C. matcha tea

1 C. tablespoons of white clay

2 tbsp. rose hydrosol

Manual :

In a bowl, pour the matcha tea, then the white clay and mix. Add the rose hydrosol and mix until you get a smooth cream.

With a brush, apply the mask to the face, clean and dry skin. Leave on for 10 minutes, then rinse with water.

This recipe is taken from the book Super Easy Natural Cosmetics, Emilie Hebert. Ed. Mango Green. € 12.95.

Advice from Lucile Battail

“This mask is very interesting for its three actions: anti-shine by its green tea content, anti-redness by its contribution of white clay and anti-aging by the hydrosol of rose. It helps a very widespread skin type which suffers from its three problems.

During the preparation, the use of metal utensils which would render the white clay inactive should be excluded. Choose a well-concentrated rose hydrolate, undiluted in distilled water to ensure its effectiveness. Use in the morning once or twice a week. “

Advice from Lucile Battail

“This serum is recommended for dry and / or dehydrated skin. The blend of coconut oil and honey deeply hydrates and nourishes, the cucumber provides a soothing boost.

Apply it all over the face, morning and night.
