American study: Drinking coffee protects you from liver disease

A study published in the American Journal of Nutrition, in collaboration with the Institute for Scientific Information on Coffee (ISIC), confirmed that drinking coffee on a regular basis can help protect you from liver disease (NAFLD), according to what was published by the “eatthis” website.

The study included 156 middle-aged adults who were all considered obese, while 98 had type 2 diabetes (T2D). Lipidemia, insulin resistance and inflammation of both, liver and adipose tissue.

During the study, the participants’ body measurements were noted, while they also underwent liver scans and provided urine and blood samples. Furthermore, the participants answered questionnaires and filled out records that tracked the amount of coffee they were drinking, as well as other beverages and foods containing caffeine.

The resulting data showed that coffee metabolites may help prevent NAFLD from becoming worse, the study suggests that higher cumulative amounts of both caffeine and non-caffeine metabolites measured in 24 hours of urine are associated with less severe fatty liver.

The study indicated that coffee consumption may help improve insulin sensitivity, reduce inflammation, and reduce oxidative stress, all of which are factors associated with the development of liver disease. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
