Signs on the hands that indicate health issues

There are several reasons for a rash on the hand, the most common of which is that it can be a sign of a nickel allergy, sometimes turning into fluid-filled blisters. Nickel is found in rings, watches, cell phones, and sometimes even in foods such as: Cashews, cocoa, soy, licorice, and buckwheat.

People with eczema are more likely to have an allergic reaction when exposed to nickel. In this case, a dermatologist should be consulted.

 

Change in the shape of the fingers

What is meant here is that you notice a change in the nail area and the surrounding area, this change may indicate serious heart or lung issues due to lack of oxygen in the blood. But in this case, there are other signs that appear, and you should consult your doctor, such as:

 

Swelling of the fingertips.

Redness and warmth in the fingers.

Curving the nail more.

Softening of the nail and its partial separation from the finger

 

Hand pain, stiffness and swelling

There are a range of diseases that may first manifest as swelling, pain or stiffness in the hands, including: Dermatomyositis, which occurs when you have a disease that affects the skin and muscles and causes swollen joints. In addition to:

 

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD): Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis.

Psoriatic arthritis: A chronic inflammatory disease that affects the joints and is associated with dry, flaky skin.

Rheumatoid Arthritis: An autoimmune disease that causes joint inflammation and swelling

 

Hand tremors

The Cleveland Clinic website notes that everyone has a small degree of normal hand tremors, which occur when you’re concentrating hard. But if it increases, it could be caused by nicotine withdrawal:

 

Nicotine withdrawal.

Taking certain medications that affect the nerves.

Low blood sugar.

Lack of sleep.

Too much caffeine.

It may be a sign of neurological diseases such as Parkinson’s, as the tremor is clearly visible at rest

 

Numbness or tingling in the hands

If you experience frequent tingling in the hands, as well as numbness, you may have carpal tunnel syndrome; to be sure, there are other symptoms associated with this condition, such as

 

Weak hand grip.

Dropping things frequently.

A feeling of electric shock or tingling in the fingers.

Despite the symptoms, the injury must be confirmed with an electromyogram (EMG); treatment ranges from a splint to surgery. Panic or anxiety attacks can also cause the same symptoms.

 

Purple knots in the fingers

If painful red or purple blisters or lumps appear on your fingertips, it could be a sign of endocarditis, a rare but serious disease. Other signs include:

 

Dark spots at the base of the thumb and pinky.

Lines under the nails that are red or brown in color.

Fever, chills, shortness of breath.

A new or worsening heart attack.

This is a medical emergency and requires urgent care

 

Psoriasis of the hands and nails

Psoriasis is an immune-mediated disease that causes thick, scaly patches of skin, and if you have dark skin, dark brown or purple patches may appear, and on lighter skin, pink or red patches. Symptoms may also include: Pus-filled blisters, painful cracks and nail discoloration.

 

Stenosing Tenosynovitis

A condition called Stenosing Tenosynovitis, where the finger gets stuck or makes a popping sound when moving, often affecting the thumb or ring finger.

 

Finger discoloration with cold or stress

If the fingers lose their color and turn blue or red, the cause may be Raynaud’s syndrome, the result of a temporary loss of blood flow. In this case, symptoms such as:

 

Numbness or coldness in the fingers.

Pain when blood returns.

Severe tingling when blood circulation is restored.

In this case, the diagnosis does not stop at Raynaud’s, while there may be possibilities of other diseases such as: Lupus, rheumatoid, scleroderma, Sjogren’s syndrome, and thyroid disorders
