Rotavirus may threaten a child’s life
The German Foundation for Children’s Health has warned that infection of young children or infants with rotavirus can take serious disease paths that may lead – in the worst case – to the death of the child; Infection with these viruses causes the child to lose large amounts of important fluids and minerals in his body due to severe bouts of diarrhea and vomiting.
• Infection:
The Foundation explained that the virus is often transmitted to children through hands contaminated with feces or the collective use of towels in kindergarten, for example, pointing out that it may also be transmitted in the same way as the common cold, that is, through coughing, sneezing, or contaminated objects such as children’s toys.
• Symptoms:
The Foundation added that the symptoms of infection with these viruses appear in the form of a child suffering from severe vomiting, followed by watery diarrhea accompanied by secretions and a very pungent smell that lasts for a period ranging from two to six days, noting that these symptoms appear one and a half to three days after he is infected with these viruses. .
• protection:
In order for parents to protect their child from the risks resulting from infection with this infection, the German Foundation recommended that they give their child a vaccination to prevent infection with it. Studies have shown that a large portion of cases of infection with these viruses and their consequences can be avoided through vaccination.
In order to provide the best protection for the infant, the German Foundation stressed the necessity of taking the vaccination starting from the sixth week and before completing the sixth month at the latest.
According to the type of vaccination medications, the Foundation explained that the infant should be given two to three doses of the medication, at least four weeks apart, noting that this vaccination can be received with other vaccinations and that the child can tolerate it well.
The German Foundation confirmed that the child receiving this vaccination will not benefit him alone, but rather the entire family. This ensures that the family does not transmit the infection to it through the infected child.
