Thyme oil is an effective antibacterial

A recent scientific study revealed that thyme oil is very effective in combating some strains of bacteria that are naturally present in the skin, some of which cause infections in those who suffer from a decrease in the efficiency of the immune system, which heralds the possibility of using it in fighting antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

Researchers from the Technical Educational Institute of the Ionian Islands in Greece conducted the study on eight types of plant essential oils, including thyme and cinnamon plant oils, with the aim of evaluating their effect on a number of strains of bacteria that belong to what is known as Canine aureus.

According to the study, the results of which were presented during the activities of the General Bacteriology Society meeting held in the Scottish city of Anbara, it was found that the essential oil of the thyme plant was the most effective in combating the Canococcus canis bacteria targeted by the study, as it succeeded in killing almost all the cells in one hour.

Researcher Yance Samaras, from the Technical Educational Institute of the Ionian Islands, believes that essential oils of some plant species could provide effective tools for fighting antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

From his point of view, essential oils are cheap and offer a therapeutic option for dealing with resistant strains of germs. In addition, they reduce the use of antibiotics, to help reduce the risk of the emergence of resistant strains of germs.

According to specialists, previous scientific studies have revealed the effectiveness of plant essential oils in fighting many types of bacteria and fungi, but scientists still do not know much about their effect in fighting germs in humans.

It is worth noting that humans have known the essential oils in plants for several centuries, and they have been used in the field of folk medicine to deal with many pathological conditions.
