6 Month SEO Plan

Learn how to create a simple but effective 6 month SEO plan, and in this week’s SaaS showcase I’ll tell you about a tool that will help you send cold emails that get replies.

Actionable SEO Tip of the Week

SEO can seem overwhelming and complicated, and although it can get a little technical sometimes, the truth is that a well-planned SEO strategy can be pretty straightforward.

To help with this, I want to share with you a simple strategic SEO plan for the next 6 months. You may see things that you won’t be able to do yourself, but I will give you some suggestions on how to make it happen.

6 Month SEO Plan

📅 Month 1

On-Page Optimization

Grab any SEO on-page audit tool and run a technical audit.

The most common issues you will encounter will have to do with meta tags. You read can this past issue where I talked about how to optimize your meta tags.

Another common problem is page load speed, which can be fixed by optimizing your images, setting caching software, and using a CDN. In my first newsletter issue, I wrote about how to optimize your website’s load speed.

Most audit tools will give you some guidance on how to fix the rest of the issues it finds.

If something is too technical or you are not sure how to do it (or don’t have the time to do it), don’t be afraid to get help from a freelancer SEO/Web expert. Yes, It’ll cost you money, but it will be a great long-term investment.

Keyword Research

The next step is to find the best keywords you should try to rank for. You can use a keyword research tool for that. Back on issue #003, I talked about how to do this.

Come up with a list of 20 keywords. Do a mix of long-tail and top keywords so you can prepare content for blog posts and product, feature or services pages.

Using the same keyword research tool, come up with 3 to 5 related keywords for each of the 20 keywords mentioned above. That is called keyword clustering, and it will be very helpful for your content creation process.

Keyword Rank Tracking

Add the 20 keywords mentioned above to a keyword rank tracking tool so you can start monitoring your Google rankings.

You may not see a lot of movement at the start, but what you should be able to see, at least with most rank tracking tools, is who is ranking on the first page of Google for your top keywords.

This will help you do some competitor research to compare and get some content ideas you can implement on your website.

Content Plan

Use the 20 keywords to plan 20 pieces of content. As I said before, it can be blog posts or product/feature/services pages.

Why 20 pieces of content? Because that’s 4 per month for your next 5 months! 🤯

If you feel like writing 20 articles is too overwhelming, you don’t have time to do it, or writing is just not your thing, then outsource the content creation!

The only thing I would not outsource is coming up with your list of keywords and topics because no one knows your business and your customers better than you.

📅 Months 2 – 6

If you are writing the content yourself, make it a task to write 1 article per week so you can stick to the plan of publishing 4 articles per month.

If you are going to outsource them, I would suggest you order all 20 articles at once so you have all the content ready to be scheduled.

Weekly tasks

Publish the content for the week.

Share it on social media to drive traffic and improve page indexing. This can also increase the chances of someone discovering and linking to your content.

Do content distribution by reposting the content on other blogging platforms and websites. Just make sure to use your original article as the canonical URL. You can learn more about this in issue #017.

That’s it, your 6 month SEO plan has been completed!

Simple SEO strategy

Are there other actions you could take during those 6 months to improve your SEO even more? Of course! But the idea behind this plan is to keep it simple and have it consume as little time as possible.

That’s why, if you notice, most of the work is done in the first month, and if you outsource the content, which I highly recommend you do, then your weekly tasks shouldn’t take more than a couple of hours.

SEO doesn’t have to be complicated, and now you have the perfect plan to put your SEO strategy in motion.
