5 healthy foods…be careful not to eat them in excess

What if you made a decision to skip your special, luxurious breakfast of bacon, eggs, and pretzels, and replace it with a slice of whole-grain toast, with avocado and hummus, and a cup of fresh juice instead of vanilla milk. You may feel more active and energetic, but you may not be able to lose weight quickly. So, what’s up?

 

Although the body benefits from the added nutrients, overeating “guilt-free” foods may do more harm than good to the body. Here are five healthy foods that should be eaten in moderation:

 

• olive oil:

Olive oil is known for its heart-healthy properties, as it contains a high percentage of unsaturated fatty acids, which reduces cholesterol and the risk of heart disease. But if saturated fat olive oil is taken in large doses, it can increase calories. So, use food measuring spoons to know the right amount to eat.

 

•  Nuts:

Nuts are at the top of the list of useful snacks, especially as they contain proteins and fiber, and can help lower cholesterol. However, nuts are about 80 percent fat and can quickly add up in calories. Therefore, you can eat a small handful of nuts daily.

 

•  Detox juices:

Juicing removes the pulp from the products, in addition to removing the fiber that helps you feel full.. The result? You are consuming too many vitamins, minerals and excess calories. So, while juicing is a good way to consume vegetables you don’t like, eating fruits and vegetables is better in terms of calories.

 

• Green tea:

Green tea is known for its health benefits, such as the ability to lose weight and prevent many diseases. It is also used to soothe headaches, diarrhea and nausea. However, if you drink more than five cups of green tea a day, the amount of caffeine in green tea causes these symptoms to worsen.

 

Drinking too much green tea can affect the body’s ability to absorb iron from food. Therefore, do not drink more than three cups a day.

 

•  Sushi (raw seafood):

Although eating sushi leads to the body absorbing Omega-3, it also exposes the body to heavy and toxic metals called mercury, which can lead to a negative impact on the nervous system if you eat a lot of these foods.

 

So, if you are a sushi lover, avoid eating predatory fish, which are high in these toxins, and instead eat seafood, which has lower levels of mercury.
