A team of healthy volunteers was given half a kilogram of strawberries, or strawberries, daily for a month, to see if eating it would change the composition of their blood.
At the end of this unconventional treatment, the Spanish and Italian researchers noticed that their levels of bad cholesterol and triglycerides had decreased significantly, while their good cholesterol remained unchanged.
The Daily Mail reported that eating strawberries also improved other health dimensions, such as the state of plasma lipids and antibiotic indicators, such as the ability to absorb vitamin C or ionized oxygen radicals, or immune defenses, as well as platelet functions.
Many studies have shown the health benefits of antioxidants found in strawberries, but the researchers who conducted the new analysis also confirmed that this fruit can lower cholesterol.
